FAMILIAR FRIENDS

I saw two crows, Ink blotches in an empty space.

Beg familiar favor,

Grant wishes in a wishless ward.

They study me, Apathetic visitors at the zoo,

Caw-cawing when I look away.

What do you want from me?

They puff their chests,

Shake and preen,

Royal majesties at my service.

Humble pie, sweet and sour,

I let the taste steep on my tongue.

Was I once proud and oh-so vain?

What do they want from me?

I dare to lock eyes. I am no exhibit

For such visitors, these two demanding black crows.
