Mourning Doves Coo and Preen
At daybreak, mourning doves
coo and preen, feed and bathe
in reverence before flight.
They are grieving all that was and will be,
birth and death and
rebirth is all they will
know, as will you if you
listen: armies of warlords
who rage and storm,
rape and pillage. Doves mourn
only sunrise. No
more. No less.
Give them grace and
deliverance. At daybreak,
mourning doves are your
symbol. They are your reckoning.
When tears streak your face,
you will remember their song
and all they have lost,
knowing still,
they will fly once again.
